Flipkado for everyone

Flipkado now works properly with screen readers and keyboard navigation — plus a batch of fixes to text, colours, and practice screens we found along the way.

• Flashcards work with a screen reader. The card reads out one side at a time, so the answer stays hidden until you flip it, and every flip, answer, and new card is read aloud as it happens.
• You can use the whole app without a mouse. Every button and field now shows a clear highlight when you move to it with the keyboard, so you always know where you are.
• Words in the language you're learning are read out with the right accent — German sounds German, Japanese sounds Japanese — instead of being mispronounced by an English voice.
• Pinch-to-zoom works again on phones, and Flipkado now follows your device's "reduce motion" and "increase contrast" settings.
• Along the way: correct answers in grammar practice no longer appear as spaced-out letters, long deck names aren't clipped at the bottom, and buttons that couldn't do anything yet now stay out of your way.

A big round of polish

This release is a top-to-bottom refresh of Flipkado — a cleaner look, smarter controls, and a much smoother experience on your phone.

• The whole app feels more at home on your phone: redesigned headers and menus, friendlier dialogs and bottom sheets, and smoother transitions everywhere.
• You can now speak your chat replies hands-free — hold the mic (or the Space key) and talk, with a live waveform while you record.
• Japanese display settings — script choice, furigana, and romaji — now live in one tidy control in the header, and your choice is remembered across reading, chat, grammar, and writing.
• Settings got a cleaner home, grammar practice starts from a simpler setup, and dozens of small touch-ups landed across the app.

Flip now reacts during onboarding

Flip now watches your onboarding choices, writes a quick note, and guides you into the next step.

• Flip now appears above the onboarding title and stays in an idle animation while you decide.
• Once you confirm a choice, Flip switches to a writing animation and shows a short localized comment before the next screen opens.
• The language picker now also gets a target-language reaction, so Flip celebrates your choice in the language you want to learn.

Cultural picks from Flip

Flip can now suggest songs, films, and books in the language you are learning.

• Suggestions change with your target language, so an Italian deck can surface Italian songs, while Japanese practice can surface Japanese films and books.
• Song picks are designed to refresh over time, while films and books stay anchored to well-known classics.
• Messages adapt to your app language, while titles and artist or author names stay intact.

Reading stories now have a built-in audio player with speed control.

A user suggested this feature and we listened — you can now hear the correct version of your answers read aloud.

• Works across all exercises that give you corrections — writing, grammar translations, and chat.

Translate whole sentences while reading

Reading now gives you sentence-level help without interrupting word lookup.

• Turn on sentence mode above the story, then tap any sentence to translate it.
• When sentence mode is off, word lookup works exactly as before with deck words still highlighted.
• Sentence translations open in the same bottom sheet used for word meanings.
